despite the doors being closed on dissident in 2009, former boss andy blake has been anything but quiet, with his world unknown imprint bringing the acid and ebm sounds of his night of the same name to the world. now hes started another label, in plain sight, which looks set to bring more esoteric house sounds to our ears, with the first release coming from the hitherto unknown youngtee. the first track, >dr chocolate< fuses the kind of oddball low-slung sounds and spoken-word samples that in flagranti have been masters of for years, with jazzy keys and 808 cowbells which hint at a subtle chicago influence. the classic house influence continues of >perfect model<, which combines misty chords with an 80s pop groove, falsetto vocal sample and synth jam solo which comes across as alternate universe michael jackson track. as youd expect from a label curated by blake, its house music, but not quite as you know it.

for almost as long as there have been djs, there have been dj tools: bonus beats, acapellas and ambient overlays have long been the stock in trade of selectors interested in more than simple crossfades from outro to intro. but back at the beginning of 2007, luciano put a new twist on a triedand- true idea with no model no tool. the inaugural release on cadenza split composition, a sublabel of the iconic swiss imprint, no model no tool revitalized the recombinant concept, offering djs a selection of readymade miniatures that worked like sonic building blocks—oddly-shaped bits and pieces designed to be stacked and shuffled to the djs delight.

paolo martini apparently had a taste for all things beats from an early age. he bought his first single at the age of thirteen - the classic sound of philadelphia by mf.s.b. a role model for all italian djs, paolo began servin up the tunes in the early eighties, but it was a chance meeting with dj alfredo in 1988 that really turned the tide for paolo. alfredo was then resident at amnesia in ibiza and responsible for bringing the first batch of house music over to italy. paolo embraced the genre and has never looked back, paving the way for other aspiring djs willing to follow in his footsteps. in recognition of his achievements
